Mortal Kombat X is, by the opinion of many, the best Mortal Kombat game ever. I think that this opinion may be a little of exaggeration, but it is definitely an improvement from the previous edition of this game, that is, Mortal Kombat 9. The game is developed by the company NetherRealm Studios. The first thing that comes to our attention when playing this game, and believe to anyone who is a fan of Mortal Kombat games, is that in this new game we have 8 new characters. So in the game there are in total 24 characters, which include some new names like Takeda (son of an old character-Kenshi and trained also by one old character- Scorpio, Takeda uses swords and whips in the battle) and Kung Jin (a descendent of regular old character – Kung Lao).
We can see that developers wanted to preserve the tradition of old Mortal Kombat games, but also at the same time to offer a new and more innovative look of this game. Takeda is a model of what really is about this game Mortal Kombat X. Takeda has the most eye catching new design and he fights like a 21ct century ninja man, that is, his moves have a style which is a mix of traditional ninja moves and modern look of today’s fighters. He also has an interesting mix of traditional weaponry and high tech gadgets. He also got a remote controlled lase sword, explosive kunai throwing knifes and other kind of interesting gadgets.
The animation of this game is much better than the animation of previous Mortal Kombat game, so in fact, every character look much more effective and have more interesting fighting style than before. So the battles are much smoother and have nice mechanics. Also, you there is much more to discover about the characters since many of them have different abilities that you can use in the fight. For instance, Liu Kang can switch between healing and damaging stance, Torr can employ an assistant character to double team his opponent in the fight, Kotal Khan can place totems in order to gain for himself temporary buffs, so all this different kind of features give this game a little kind of different perspective then there was in previous Mortal Kombat games. That makes this game a little bit different, and it was a risk form the developers, since players might not react good to this kind of changes, because it is a new thing and players are not use to this kind of features, but it seems that developers had done a good job, and that all of this new change work perfectly good in the game, and there is no confusion in gameplay during the battles.
Another change that was made by the developers is that in this game the story mode looks a little bit in odds with previous games of Mortal Kombat serial. The characters are set in the in a war torn Outworld but there is just no storytelling behind this. The main gist of the story however should be about young people who enters in an age of a world of death and brutality. But, again not bigger story or explanation is provided here by the developers. But, as we all know, the Mortal Kombat game is not really about the story, it is really just about one on one fighting, so that is not a really big minus for the developers. So let’s say something more about the very matchups and fights.
The first thing that will probably catch the attention of dedicated fan of Mortal Kombat games, is that some characters are very nicely designed with diversity of details on them (like Scorpio, or a new character D’vorah), while some other characters look very simple and have poor face texture (Sonya and Jacqui).
The second thing, is that there are extra options when you choose between fighters. Each fighter has an additional three options, and you can just what kind of option you want for your selected fighter. All this give a new dimension to Mortal Kombat matchups since you will have to think more careful about the tactics you want to employ against specific fighter, and now also against the specific style of the opponent fighter. For instance, Sonya has martial arts focused Special Force variant and also has hers Demolition style. One successful tactics that you may choose against her when she is in a Special Force mode, might not turn up to be so successful against her in a Demolition mode, so you will have to chose carefully have you will play against her, or any other opponent with varieties of their styles.
Mortal Kombat X have also a very improved training mode with a solid suite of online features. You can chat with a bunch of other players while training, you can also watch live matches and learn from them. It is a very fun and interesting way to chat and join with people, and it creates a very fun community and interesting environment.
In the game there are wide range of costumes, finishers and supplemental materials that you can select if you earn enough ‘’koins’’ for yourself. Perhaps sadly, something have been monetized, for instance, you can buy and unlock the menu for 20$, and also in the very game you can often see the commercial ‘’push X to buy Goro’’, which may been seen as a distraction from the very game, and it might spoil a little your experience of the game (although some players have reported that this did not distracted them much from the game).
Like I have said, the Mortal Kombat X, distinguish itself mainly because of the many varieties of options that you will have at your disposal in the game. Also, equally important is that you game really gives you different kinds of perspectives during the vary battles or during the intros before the battles. Characters can jump differently for instances, and can be viewed from different angles, and most importantly for the fans of Mortal Kombat series there exist a really vide range of fatalities that are done by the developers in very realistic manner. All these diversities that you kind find in this game, creates a very interesting way to experience this game, and the game is not at all limited to what was one knew as a simple one on one 2D fighting game. This game, better than ever, jumps out the previous pattern of simple fighting game.
The game scene and fighting effect, as well as background, are done in a pretty good way by developers. Visual effects as good as they can be, and there should be not too much complains over them. The whole game, and the most of the game scenes are done in a dark manner, and fighters are presented in very realist way. The sound effects and music could perhaps be better, although the developers have done a good job in this, presenting some characters in the game as very eloquent and with rich vocabulary.
The impression of the users on the different web sites is that this game is quite amazing and stunning, and they mostly said that because of the quality of animations and fights, and also because of different type of options that you will have in the game, as I have mentioned. There are other kind of views of course, with are not satisfied with some shortcoming of this game, but in general, public opinion is that this game is one of the best fighting games that have come out in recent years, and in general people believes that this game should be rated very positively.
To summarize, Mortal Kombat X presents their characters in a cinematic way, and tries to deliver to you very brutal Mortal Kombat experience. It also offers fully connected game online game experience with some very exciting features, and that is a big plus for this game. And for the first time, you can choose between multiply variations of the same character impacting both strategy and playing style. There are old and well known characters, like Sub Zero, and Scorpio, and there are also novel characters. Those characters together represent the forces of good and evil.
For the fans of Mortal Kombat series this game will surely be accepted, but it is perhaps a question whether an expert in this will be fully satisfied, for this game have some minor minuses. However, even the experts in this game of game, will quite surely enjoy in game battles, as the biggest plus of this is really in the very game mechanics of fighters in the battles. For the audience who is new to this game, it will probably be a fun experience to try it, and like I said, the game itself is quite fun to play, and also the animations are quite impressive in some respects. All in all, like most of the players do agree, this game deservers a positive review for it does offers really much to the players who wants to play this game.
